Never Stop Paddling (NSP)

The NSP is Source Lake Paddle Company’s original shape. This unique model has an elegant transition from shaft to wide shoulders, tapering to a slim tip, creating the perfect balance between a tripping and style paddle. The NSP glides effortlessly through water, providing a smooth initial entry and a streamlined exit for easy recovery strokes. The bulk of the blade being higher up allows for better control over your boat due to its proximity to the paddlers bottom hand.

While having slightly less blade area than our Ottertail model, the NSP still performs very well as a tripping paddle, pulling lots of water and getting you where you need to go.

*Find out more about types of wood on our Paddle Shop page. An extra description about wood choice is included in the description of each product.

**Only NSP paddles have a hand carved “cherry tree” logo. Filled with a marine epoxy, the logo comes to life when submerged in water. Each wood type has a standard color logo. Customization is available – fill out the customization form in our shop and we’ll make your vision a reality.

OTTERTAIL

The Source Lake Paddle Company Ottertail is a slight modification over the beloved ottertail shape used by most canoe trippers and paddlers.

In a similar philosophy to the NSP model, more material has been pushed upwards, with the shoulder expanding more rapidly than the taper to the tip. SLPC believes the best paddles should ease into water before becoming the engine of your canoe. The widest point of the paddle is in the top half closer to the paddler’s bottom “power hand.” This allows paddlers to take longer and easier feeling strokes. The Ottertail is our power house model that puts less strain on your shoulder during those long and hard canoe tripping days.

CAMPER

SLPC is very proud to offer high quality youth paddles to keep our smallest paddlers happy out on the water. Every part of the paddle has been created with them in mind.

The handle and shaft have been slimmed down for smaller hands to feel comfortable and not out of place. The blade, while similar to the Ottertail, has been slimmed down as well, especially in the top half.

Young paddlers tend to paddle more horizontal to the water. Our blade design accommodates this tendency by keeping the blade length proportional to its balance point, rather than just shrinking all proportions equally. We feel it’s important to keep our young paddlers paddling, rather than become frustrated by how demanding the task can be.

PAINTED PADDLES

Painted Paddles are available from those listed in our Gallery as well as commissioned works.

During the paddle making process some paddles end up too heavy, bad grain pattern weaken its strength, or a knot or crack is revealed. These paddles have found a new life out of the water and into the hands of our paddle artist Paige Clark. Paige transforms these otherwise shelf ridden paddles into works of art inspired by her canoe tripping years at Camp Northway.

“Each paddle in this series explores a memory or experience from my years canoe tripping and living in Algonquin Park: Vantage points vary from the stern of a canoe, sky above, or a favorite spot on the lake. The grain patterns of each paddle help me to find what each painting will become – knots into islands and canoes, twisting grains into rivers and horizons.

With vibrant colors and active brush strokes, each painted paddles reminds us of what it’s like to be out in the wilderness. I am so thankful to be able to collaborate on this project and bring these paintings into peoples lives.”
